Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world

Each Easter I think about different things surrounding the great atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. This Easter weekend my mind has been drawn again and again to the sheer pain He suffered--that immense, tortuous pain that paid the price for all sin and comprehended all human pain. I saw these videos today and was so moved, as they put a visual portrayal on that pain I had been thinking about all weekend. The first one is, hands down, the best portrayal I have ever seen of Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane (prior to His crucifixion):

How much would I have to love somebody to give myself to be brutally beaten in their place? I really don't know because I can't comprehend that much pain...which follows then that I also cannot comprehend the depth of His love. One of the greatest things I learned about Jesus Christ following my brother's suicide two years ago is that Christ's love is magnificent; it holds a compassion far beyond the reaches of our imagination. I won't delve into the particulars here publicly of how I came to learn that, but feel free to ask me about it. :)


I love Jesus Christ for so many reasons. He is my hero and my greatest strength. I'm the person I am today because of Him. He has given me strength and peace in my darkest hours (and yes, I do have dark hours just like all of you!); He has healed me physically, mentally, and emotionally; He has forgiven me and erased the effects of my sins; He has taught me how to love when it is hardest to love; He has been my example of how to live a happy, meaningful, and fulfilled life. By all this, I know that He is real! All my happiness is because of Him. He is my Savior and He is the Savior of the whole human race. And He stands ever ready to reach you.

Forgiveness

I recently read my sister Angela's blog post about forgiveness: http://xoxoangelann.blogspot.com/2011/01/anyone-you-need-to-forgive.html  and it got me thinking that there is nothing so misunderstood until it is lived than forgiveness. Dr. Sidney Simon, a recognized authority on values realization, has provided an excellent definition of forgiveness as it applies to human relationships: “Forgiveness is freeing up and putting to better use the energy once consumed by holding grudges, harboring resentments, and nursing unhealed wounds. It is rediscovering the strengths we always had and relocating our limitless capacity to understand and accept other people and ourselves.” Most of us need time to work through pain and loss. We can find all manner of reasons for postponing forgiveness. One of these reasons is waiting for the wrongdoers to repent before we forgive them.
